Game Description

Source: Google Play. Checked 2026-10-24. Store-user rating, not an OOZGM test score. Availability and pricing can change.

Flow Free is a path-drawing puzzle with pairs of colored endpoints on a grid. You connect each pair and cover the board, keeping the routes from crossing. The official listing distinguishes a considered Free Play mode from a timed alternative, so the same basic rules can support different kinds of session.

The puzzle is not solved merely by linking every pair through the shortest route. Empty cells must also be accounted for. That turns the board into a shared-space problem: the route that seems natural for one color may consume the only corridor available to another.

How To Play

  1. Locate all matching endpoint pairs and begin with a color whose position leaves only a few plausible routes.
  2. Draw connections while checking that the remaining pairs still have corridors and that no isolated empty region is left behind.
  3. Revise earlier paths when necessary, then check that every pair is connected and the full board is covered without overlaps.

Before you install

A good fit: Best for players who enjoy tidy spatial logic and are comfortable revising an apparently obvious first answer.

Consider: The visual simplicity can hide difficult constraints. Timed play changes the experience substantially, so start with an untimed board if you want to learn the underlying reasoning.

Find the constrained routes first

Look for endpoints near edges, corners or narrow spaces. They may have fewer plausible paths than a pair in an open area. Establishing those constraints can make the rest of the board easier to reason about, while committing too early to an unconstrained path may create unnecessary revisions.

If a connection blocks another pair, do not assume the newest path is the mistake. An earlier line may have taken more space than it needed, or it may need to loop through cells you initially left empty. Treat every route as provisional until the complete board works.

Choose between contemplation and speed

Free Play is useful for learning how routes interact because you can stop and reconsider a choice. A timed mode asks for recognition under pressure and may reward patterns that are already familiar. Neither approach is inherently better; choose according to whether you want a quiet reasoning exercise or a pace challenge.

On a difficult board, a hint can reveal a useful connection, but it can also remove the most interesting part of the problem. Before using one, name what is unresolved: a stranded endpoint, an uncovered region or two colors competing for a corridor. That makes the assistance more educational and helps you recognize a similar structure later.
